In a video aptly titled Deepsea Battle: Featherweight Division, the researchers could be heard shrieking as the shrimp took down the dragonfish in an ‘impressive display of predatory behaviour.'

‘I've never seen a shrimp consume a fish like this before, picking and picking and the fish is still alive,' one of the researchers says.

‘I've never seen that kind of predation in action before in my career,' one of the researchers says in the footage.

‘Pretty amazing.'

According to the NOAA, deep-sea shrimp are typically seen as scavengers, not hunters, leading to much surprise as this particular caridean shrimp tore into its prey.
